Volunteer Positions

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Shepherds of Good Hope!  We have a variety of Volunteer opportunities available for individuals and groups. Come see how your participation can make a difference!

Requirements:

  • Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Volunteers are required to attend an orientation session that introduces them to the organization and volunteer opportunities Sessions are held biweekly on Friday’s from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm.
  • Volunteers are asked to maintain a consistent commitment to a position for 6 months: one shift – 4 hours – per week in one program.
  • Volunteers are required to submit a Police Records Check for service with the vulnerable sector.
  • Volunteers are required to submit 2 references: work-related references are preferred.
  • Shepherds of Good Hope will provide training tailored to the volunteer position.
  • Group Volunteering is available and reserved on Saturdays (15 volunteers) & Sundays (25 volunteers).

VOLUNTEER  POSITIONS  

(Available Immediately)

ARTS & CRAFTS COORDINATOR:

Provide assistance and instruction in simple handiwork activities (i.e. beading, collage-making, cross-stitch, drawing, macramé, etc.): consistent, once weekly schedule.

 

BARBERS / BEAUTICIANS / STYLISTS:

Provide facials, make-up, hair care, manicures, pedicures: consistent weekly schedule.

 

COOKS (SHORT ORDER):

Prepare Soup Kitchen luncheon meal: 7:30 am – 12:30 pm (positions available on Tue.).

 

DISHWASHER: Operate the Soup Kitchen dishwasher: 8:30 am to 1:30 pm (position available on Tue.).

 

DROP-IN CENTRE ASSISTANTS:

Serve soup and sandwiches to guests, collect and wash dishes, socialize: 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm all days (positions available).

 

FOODHANDLERS:

Assist Oaks residents in the preparation and service of lunch for 55 people: 10:00 am to 1:00 pm (weekdays).

 

GAMES COORDINATOR:

Organize board games, card games and tournaments for 1) Hope Living: 6:00 pm to 8: 00 pm (Wednesdays) and 2) Oaks residents (consistent, once weekly afternoon).

 

GARDENER:

Assist Oaks residents in planting, weeding and watering garden beds, cutting grass and maintaining the grounds.

 

GROCERY ORDER ASSISTANT:

Assist Oaks residents in storing the weekly grocery order away, maintaining a food inventory, and keeping the pantry clean and organized: 10:00 am to 12:00 pm (Monday).

 

LAUNDRY ATTENDANT:

Assist Oaks residents in stripping and making beds and doing laundry.

 

TRANS  CANADA VIRTUAL  TOUR  VOLUNTEER:

Calculate distances walked, chart courses, and maintain data base and organize walking events for participants.
