St. Andrew Residence

Shepherds of Good Hope saw a vision to secure long-term, affordable, safe and secure housing for people striving to live independently.  With the financial support of the Ministry of Health and CMHC, we were able to make that dream a reality.  St. Andrew Residence is that dream.

St. Andrew Residence is owned and operated by Shepherds of Good Hope.  It is a 37 unit apartment building located at 208 St. Andrew Street.  The tenants of the building, after meeting the criteria of the population that Shepherds of Good Hope serve are referred to this building through “client services” at Shepherds of Good Hope.

The building is staffed 24 hours a day 7 days a week by staff of Shepherds of Good Hope.  The building houses 38 people and is monitored with security cameras for the safety of the tenants and property.

One of the units on the property is converted into a resource centre — a gathering placer for recreational activities, educational workshops and a source of information relating to available resources in the community. The tenants also use the space to organize their own initiatives.

There is a tremendous sense of community that the tenants have created in the residence.  For instance, they jointly put on garage sales, organized barbeques, created and tended to a vegetable garden and manage their own tenants’ association meetings.

We believe St. Andrew Residence fills an important link on the continuum of housing needs that would otherwise be overlooked and our hope is that we can serve as a model for all organizations involved in housing who’s affiliates are dedicated to improving the quality of lives for all members of its community
