Legacy of Hope Wall unveiled

It was a touching scene Saturday afternoon when the Shepherds of Good Hope Legacy of Hope Wall was unveiled in the soup kitchen chapel.

The Legacy of Hope Wall honours those people who left a gift in their will to Shepherds of Good Hope. The wall also includes the names of people who have indicated they plan to leave a gift in their will.

Many family members turned out for the event Saturday morning. There was a round of applause as board member Ryan Kilger and Development Officer Micah Garten unveiled the memorial.

“Legacy gifts have been so important to our community,” said Micah Garten.

“They have ensured that we can continue to accept everyone seeking help and find innovative ways of getting them the care and support they need to move forward.”

Archbishop Terrence Prendergast was also on hand to bless the wall.

After the event, many family members took photos of the wall, often pointing to the name of a loved one. Before installing the wall, Shepherds of Good Hope contacted the families of people who had left us a gift in their wills to ensure we had permission to put their names on the wall.

The wall was installed last week after participants at the Good Day Workshop finished building it. The Good Day Workshop is a social enterprise run by Shepherds of Good Hope. Located at the Bronson Centre, it provides participants with a safe community where they can trust, laugh, work, build friendships, and become team players in the maintenance of this wonderful environment.
